about

I'm afraid I'll look back on this and think "fuck, this was really lazy, why didn't I just do it to a click and put the time necessary into polishing this thing up? Why didn't I even try to master this?" but I also like that it was created quickly and that the recording process was really fleeting. And if I had decided to re do it, I wouldn't have just sat down and busted it out - I would have put it off for another few months like I did the first time.

At some point, I weighed the value of releasing this song despite its imperfection against sitting on it and cleaning it up a bit. My inner mantra of "no one's going to listen to this shit anyway" pushed me toward the former.

lyrics

keep a close eye on me in the deep water
fill my arms with the blame
breathing ain't that easy when you're trying to keep the heat off ya
so fill my lung with your name

fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop making the same mistakes
fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop running away

a looser definition of the word forgiveness
doesn't always mean that I'mma let you down
being perfect isn't worth it, now is it?
so take me to the river, girl and watch me drown
watch me drown

and fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop making the same mistakes
fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop running away

keep a close eye on me in the deep water
fill my arms with the blame
breathing ain't that easy when you're trying to keep the heat off ya
so fill my lung with your name

and fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop making the same mistakes
fill my lungs with your name
and I'll stop running away

about

Spencer Kilpatrick Big Water, Utah

The Utah-based singer-songwriter has an amazing, even intoxicating handle on pitch-perfect period strut, and a smoky, emotion-damaged croon that accents and accentuates it perfectly. While his voice sounds like a cross-hatching of a bluesy John Mayer and Bill Withers, his solo work, which has dribbled out online in fervent spasms, has called to mind contemporaries like Amos Lee.” - Justin Vellucci ... more
